Have you ever been absolutely embarrassed, frustrated, and overwhelmed while on an outing with your children?
I was today! It was the most ridiculous doctors appointment that I have ever been to.
It started with Sophie pitching a fit because I wouldn't let her take off her shoes when we checked in at the doctor's office. That progressed to her screaming over wanting juice, which was in the car, and me taking her in the hallway until the nurse called Tyler back (and yes, I could still see Tyler in the waiting room - he was playing and waiting for the nurse).
In the room, Sophie finally mellowed, so then it was Tyler's turn. After measuring him and weighing him (for the record 44 lbs. and 3' 7") she mentioned to me that he would be receiving 4 boosters. Unfortunately, he knew that "booster" meant he was getting shots, and he went into panic mode. Once our doctor came in, she wanted to check over Tyler and ask him some general questions, however, all Ty would say to her was, "I'm not getting shots. I don't want to get a shot."
Dr. P was great at distracting Tyler while she visited with us, but when the nurse came back, so did my whiney child. Tyler screamed during all four shots, which caused Sophie to cry before she even knew she was getting the flu shot.
But wait, it gets better...
So, then the nurse told us that they needed to do a finger poke on Ty - yet again, that set him into his obstant fit. We were walked back to the lab and while we waited the kids were walking around the little waiting area. Then our day got even more interesting. Sophie tripped. She fell and caught her chin on the arm of the chair - splitting her chin open.
A nurse was walking by and asked her for a band-aid. She quick looked at Soph's chin and she ushered us back to a room, where she called in another nurse. Together they agreed that it needed to be looked at by our doctor. So, now, over an hour after arriving at the doctor, we were placed in a procedure room where Dr. P came to help. She glued and steri-stripped Sophie's chin back together. I was finally able to leave the doctor's office an hour and half after arriving, with two kids - one with sore legs, and one with a sore chin - and one funny story to tell.
How was your last day of November?
