Gingerbread House (Tradition 3)

Well, today we made a gingerbread house. It is always fun to put out all of the candy, get sticky with frosting, and create a "masterpiece." However, we NEVER eat them (something about really old, hard gingerbread, and dry, sometimes stale candy that doesn't sound yummy).
My favorite year of making a gingerbread house was the year my aunt Bertha was in a nursing home (Christmas 2000). Our family (grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins) trekked over to the home, before church, to visit with her while we worked on our "masterpiece." I think that she enjoyed watching us work while sharing many laughs.

Memories like this are why I continue to do this with my family. It's definately not for the treat to eat, but the memories that are made.
