On Saturday Tyler started swimming lessons. It is a tremendous relief to both Jon and me that he has started. My parents live on a lake, and although we have strict rules that he is to not be outside alone or near the lake without a life jacket, it is still comforting.
On an even bigger note, today, Tyler started preschool! As a mom my heart was both sad and excited as he got ready this morning. It was sad because I can't believe how quickly the time has gone (I know people say that all the time, but it is so true. And, it seems to speed up more and more each year). He is no longer the little boy who became shy around new people and wanted me to hold him. My little man is surely growing up.
However, my sadness faded watching him leave (a friend is driving her son and Tyler, while I watch her daughter and Sophie). He is so ready for this next step in life. He is such a fun loving, friendly, curious child and preschool will nurture that. Recently, he has become fascinated with letters and spelling words. He knows his numbers, colors, and letters, and so I think preschool will allow him to stay curious and challenged. Jon and I didn't want to over emphasize academics, especially since kindergarten is still two years away, however we don't want him to become bored and uninterested in learning either. So, now he is a "Blue Fish" going to preschool twice a week.
Jon and I are both ready for these changes. We are looking forward to meeting new people and to Tyler growing some new friendships. So, here is to our newest "firsts".
